“We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead”
(2 Corinthians 1:8-9 NLT, second edition).
We might think that God does not hear our prayers, we might even think that He sometimes turns a blind eye to our suffering …. But do we ever think that the only way He can get our attention is to put a couple of obstacles in our way?
My wife has a favorite saying : “You do not know how much you need God until God is all you have.” That is so true because we hold onto our own problems and try and solve them ourselves, relying on worldly resources for a solution, but have you ever watched someone in despair? Have you ever seen someone who has had their soul crushed or just received terrible news or witnessed something shocking?
They do not even need to be a Christian, but 99,9% of the time, they will go down to their knees, hold their face in their hands and then look up …. It is not a religious gesture by any means, it is normal and natural human behavior that has been “hard-wired” into us!
Have you ever wondered why ?
My opinion is : We do this because we are all Children of God. Nonbelievers have the same inbuilt instinct, but internally we all know there is a Higher Power that looks down upon us.
First, refuse to be discouraged. Then, remember God is with you. Finally, rely on God’s protection and guidance.
We all go through difficult times. The difference for those who believe in Jesus is not the absence of the shadow but the presence of the Light.
