We cannot change the past, no matter what we do or how hard we try, and yet we beat ourselves up about it all the time. Too often it is heard “Oh how I wish I ….”.

Something that we need to do is remember that God forgave us of our sins when He died on the cross and as a Christian, we need to understand that the slate has been washed clean. So we do not need to regret our sins because they do not exist anymore.

We regret our past. Why? Your past has shaped you into the person you are today, Yeah sure there were some bad times, but didn’t you learn something from them? So then why regret them? You should be rejoicing in the lessons that you have learned.

My father and I did not have a great relationship as I entered adulthood, in fact for almost 10 years we hardly spoke, then one day I just picked and the phone and called him, made arrangements to visit and we started rebuilding our relationship, a couple of years later he died unexpectantly. Do I regret not saying things, spending more time with him etc? No I do not regret it but rather rejoice in the time I did have, and the things I did say! More importantly, I have learned the lesson that life is too short for grudges and nonsense.

Life today like there will be tomorrow and you will have no regrets

Romans 8:28 ESV

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
