PAYING INTEREST ON THE FUTURE
When we worry about things that happen tomorrow, and especially over things which we have no control over, we’re mortgaging our joy today for what happens tomorrow. In other words, we take today’s joy and spend in on worrying about tomorrow, thereby robbing the joy that we should have today. It’s not a good deal, is it?
WORRYING ABOUT NOTHING?
I read a study once that said 85% of the things that we worry about never come to pass. We waste time, energy, and probably our health, worrying about things that’ll never happen. What a waste, right? Of the 15% that does come to pass, about half of that we can change, so if we can change it, why don’t we? I ask myself the same question.
EVERYTHING IN PRAYER
We have read where most of the things that we worry about never happen, so we’re often worrying about nothing. The Bible tells us “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Phil 4:6). If we can’t solve the problem, then seek God in prayer. That should have been our first step to the solution anyway.
Every person alive has dealt with anxiety over life’s problems. Perhaps you’re going through it right now. If you are, then try to remember that we’re letting anxiety rob today’s joy. Besides, most of what we worry about won’t happen anyway, so submit it to prayer and then leave it in God’s most capable hands.
