For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face.
1 Corinthians 13:12
When we are struggling through trials, it’s difficult to know how everything is going to work out. We want to fast forward months and years ahead of time so that the worst part is done and over. It’s difficult pressing our way forward every morning because we recognize our situation isn’t settled yet. However, what we don’t know about our future, God does. How do we know this? Because He is God.
He is the God who knows the plans He has for us. (Jeremiah 29:11) Sometimes people and circumstances may attempt to change God’s plans, but because He is sovereign, His plan is to give us a future and a hope. Moses was supposed to drown in the Nile River, but God had a plan and he grew up in the king’s palace instead.
He is the God who is working everything out for our good. (Romans 8:28) God can take any situation in our lives and turn it for our good. Joseph was terribly distressed when his brothers sold him to slavery. Yet God used that horrible event to save his entire family.
He is the God who sees everything, and nothing is hidden from His sight. (2 Chronicles 16:9) There is nothing lost on God—He sees injustice to us and He will repay evildoers. He saw Jezebel’s evil conspiracy against the righteous Naboth. Eventually, she and everyone involved suffered under the judgment of God.
He is the God who finishes the work He started in us. (Philippians 1:6) Paul was a great missionary to the Jews and Gentiles. There were many times he was beaten and left for dead, imprisoned, shipwrecked, among other persecutions. Yet God wasn’t done with Paul until the calling and purpose was complete.
He is the God who is the Alpha and Omega. (Revelation 1:8) In the beginning of time, there was the Word, and that Word was Jesus. At the end of time, it will still be Jesus. He has never lost control or His sovereignty over the earth. Satan can do nothing without God’s permission, and even those things he does are with limits. Jesus will bring us to Himself one day.
Dear Lord, help me to rest in the confidence that You are in control. Restore peace, hope, and joy to my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
